Frequently Asked Questions

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postpartum period. A doula does not provide medical care but works alongside your healthcare team to help you feel supported, informed, and confident throughout your experience.

A midwife or doctor is responsible for medical care, monitoring the health of the parent and baby, and delivering the baby. A doula focuses on support, comfort techniques, and education so you feel calm, confident, and supported throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Research shows that doula support during labour can lead to:

• reduced stress and anxiety
• shorter labors
• lower rates of medical intervention
• improved birth satisfaction

A doula ensures you never have to navigate pregnancy, birth, or postpartum alone.

Many families hire a doula between 20–32 weeks of pregnancy, but it’s never too early or too late to reach out. Booking earlier helps ensure availability around your due date.

Absolutely. A doula supports both the birthing person and their partner. I help guide partners in providing comfort and support, while also ensuring you're never left alone when your partner needs to step out to take a break, deal with family members, etc.

I use a variety of comfort measures including:

• breathing techniques
• massage and counterpressure

• acupressure
• relaxation and grounding techniques
• movement and mobility support

• TENS machine

These techniques help reduce stress, manage pain, and increase comfort.

Yes! Doula support makes a wonderful and meaningful baby shower gift. Gift cards can be applied toward birth packages or used for hourly postpartum support.

Some extended health benefit plans may reimburse doula services. I recommend checking with your provider to see if coverage is available.
